The Behind-the-Scenes Story of Downtown Tipp City’s Newest Mural
If you’ve seen the new mural downtown and the recent news coverage surrounding it, you’ll know it’s getting a lot of attention! We’re thrilled that so many people are excited about this addition to Tipp City. It’s been wonderful for our community and for public art.
I’d love to share the story behind how this project came to life.
This mural was a project of the Downtown Tipp City Partnership Design Committee. For the past six months, committee members have been meeting, planning, researching, fundraising, and working through the many steps required to bring a new piece of art to fruition.
Early in the process, the committee invited local artist (and mayor) Logan Rogers to develop several concepts for the space. Logan was commissioned as a paid artist for the project, and after reviewing multiple options, the committee selected the design that now appears on the brick behind Harrison’s on S. Second St. We are grateful for Logan’s creativity and talent and are proud to showcase his work.
Like many community projects, the mural required both funding and approvals before it could become a reality. The Design Committee initially pursued grant funding and submitted a grant application to help cover the costs. When that application was not selected, the committee decided to turn to the community for support.
The response has been incredible!
Thanks to the generosity of residents, businesses, and supporters, we are now just shy of raising the full amount needed to complete the project. Every contribution, large or small, helped make this mural possible.
The committee also worked through the necessary approval process, including presenting the project to the Tipp City Restoration Board and securing approval from both the building owner and the business owner of Harrison’s Restaurant. Once approvals were in place, the committee partnered with Vantage Signs to bring the design to life. Their team was wonderful to work with throughout the project, and we look forward to collaborating with them again in the future.
While we’re celebrating the completion of the mural right now, we’re already thinking about what’s up next!
The Downtown Tipp City Partnership plans to refresh this location with a new mural approximately every five years, creating ongoing opportunities for artists and keeping downtown vibrant and relevant.
A public art fund will help support future public art projects throughout downtown Tipp City, and we welcome anyone who would like to contribute. We believe that art like this belongs to everyone, and the best projects happen when the community inspires and creates them.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed their time, expertise, financial support, and encouragement throughout this project. This mural is the result of many people working together toward a shared vision of a beautiful and engaging downtown.
